Selecting a Jewellery Safe
The main form of protection for your jewellery and other precious valuables
can be a bank / security deposit or the use of your own
home safe. The latter is something we can provide.
Safes vary in quality from a basic sheet metal plate construction
to a high quality state of the art bankers safe. By installing
a safe you are creating a barrier to the criminal. The strength
of this barrier will largely depend on the quality of the
safe that you buy.
People who buy safes fall into two categories
- Those told by their insurer that they must have a safe.
- Those who want peace of mind.
The British insurance industry evaluates the quality of
safes and if you fall into the first category they will
tell you the type of safe required. However, if you are
buying a safe for peace of mind the British insurance rating
can be used as a good guide. Most insurance coverage uses
a factor rating of 10:1 for jewellery or valuables.
E.g. Insurance rating = 5000 - Therefore Jewellery / Valuables = 50 000
The first thing you should determine is the item you want
to protect, its size and value and the main risk.
E.g. Jewellery - would be theft. While document/papers etc. would be theft
and fire damage.
If fire risk is your main concern then the safe should
have a fire rating.
At the lower level of protection there are many manufacturers
but at the higher level there is a more restricted choice.
For example some of the higher end safe manufacturers are
Chubb, Dudley, Fichet and Burton.
It is not possible to show every manufacturer on our site
but by using the navigation on the left hand side you will
be able to browse examples of what we have available.
