Ammunition / Ammo Storage Safe Decision Help?
First, I want to say thank you to anyone who can help me.
I'm thinking about buying a small safe to securely store my ammunition, as well as prevent it from going off in the event of a fire. And if anyone broke in, I would hate for them to grab and use my ammo. It's a little paranoid, maybe, but better safe then sorry. And yes, I'll keep a few shotshells nearby.
I've narrowed it down to two, and my choices are:
1. AMSEC FS1310, which has 350F 1-HR UL tested fire rating, 81 lbs, costs $239.38, seems to be the more security oriented of the two. For more info:

2. Sentry Safe OS3421, which has 1-HR UL and ETL tested fire rating for computer media (nice for the plastic in shotshells, I guess), ETL 15ft drop test, 99 lbs, costs $239.38 (normally, this safe costs around $250, but I found an auction), the less security oriented of the two. For more info:

I keep my ammo in clearly marked military ammo cans and store it in a simple locked steel storage locker.
I'm not concerned about someone breaking in and "grabbing and using" my ammo. I have a couple dozen calibers and someone who knows "what goes with what" is probably already carrying his own anyway.....besides the firearms are in safes (and the ones not in safes are loaded anyway).
Also, while I don't want to dismiss the danger of ammo in a house fire, you know the bullets don't fly much without being shot through a barrel, they just sort of pop and they don't even have the force to go through something like an ammo can.
These home safes are, as has been stated, to keep important papers from burning up by releasing moisture in the event of fire. They are not for storing ammo or firearms.
While I do commend your attention to safety, I think that a good lockable storage cabinet to keep it away from unauthorized hands and ammo cans to keep it clean and dry will be sufficient.
