What kind of lock would be safest for my front door and the least easy to pick?
I recently had someone pick the lock on my front door and actually get in. I was home, and when they realized I was, they left; I'm terrified now. I know I can get a deadbolt that only locks from the inside and there's no access to it from the outside, so it's only effective when I'm home. What would be the best kind of lock that I can open from the outside as well? Thanks so much for any advice!
You can buy a good quality deadbolt that you unlock from the outside. If you buy a Schlage, Falcon or Arrow they are pretty good quality and you can get one for about $30. If you want heavy pick resistance and pay the money for it, look into Medeco. They are virtually impossible to pick because they have two sets of pins... the standard ones that when you look at a normal key you see the grooves on top... and also pins on the side. So the key looks pretty funky. Stay away from Kwikset, they are cheap and easy to pick. It is a good idea that when you buy the deadbolt, to also buy a high quality knob to replace your current one.
