Is this a fire code to have locks in your bedroom doors like for privacy?
because i think my owner goes in when I'm not home i only put my bedroom doors lock when I'm not there she told me is a fire code to have keys to my bedroom doors is this true because i never heard of this till now leaving in NEW JERSEY all my life is this true
I am a firefighter and fire instpector. There is no code against a lock on your bedroom door. If you have a lock, the owner is entitled to a key...BUT... the owner has to have your permission to enter. If you have a lease or rental agreement, it should state in there what your rights and the owner's are. If you suspect the owner is going in to your room without persmission I would talk to her about it. If you do not feel comfortable with confronting the owner and don't like your suspicion, the best thing is to find another place to live.
